Ink Cartridges
The Stationer’s Company’s ‘Surviving & Profiting by E-trading’ Autumn event held last night at Stationer’s Hall in London attracted 120 people. Chaired by author Robert Heller, speakers included Mike Swarbick, head of partnership programme team, DTI, Ron Wotherspoon of ECI2 and Nick Hodges of Oyez Professional Services. Swarbick focused on the government’s ambition to make the UK the leader in technology and the Internet using three approaches: -6,000 UK online centres located mainly in libraries to provide public access to the Internet Ink Cartridges; -http://www.ukonline.gov.uk/ as the future entry point for all government services & information, including total online tendering in the short term; and -http://www.ukonlineforbusiness.gov.uk/ as a site to help businesses get up to speed with the Internet. He said that business-to-business online trading is expected to reach £300 billion by 2005 and that Internet sales are currently at £12.5 billion. ECI2’s Ron Wotherspoon gave an introduction to computerisation and the Internet, with a demo of the company’s Prolink for the Web given by Paola White. Nick Hodges spoke about Oyez Professional Service’s online activies and said that the company was targeting 30% electronic trading by 2003.
