Canon Photo Quality Printing

Canon, leader in imaging technology, is pleased to announce the smallest Bubble Jet flatbed multifunctional printer, scanner and copier with direct photo print capability - the SmartBase MPC200 Photo.

Designed for home and small business use, this new model in the SmartBase range produces crisp copies and prints and can also print full-colour photos directly from a digital camera memory card, without the need for a PC. This is Canon's first fully featured All-In-One device to offer direct photo printing and allows users to print photographs quickly and easily at home or in the workplace.

Photo quality printing

The SmartBase MPC200 Photo delivers outstanding photo prints. Its high print resolution of 2400 x 1200 dpi ensures high-contrast prints and a broad colour range, even on plain paper. The SmartBase MPC200 Photo delivers a fast 14 ppm in monochrome and 10 ppm in colour. It further distinguishes itself from other models in the SmartBase line up with its borderless printing and copying capabilities in both A4 and 4"x6" formats.

Photo functions

By simply inserting their digital camera's memory card (using an adapter) into the Canon SmartBase MPC200 Photo, users can print their photos directly from the card without the need for a computer. The MPC200 Photo is supplied with a PCMCIA Compact Flash" card adapter but is also compatible with SmartMedia", SD card" and Sony Memory Stick® providing the appropriate adapter is used.

Additionally adjusting the photo settings is easy with the user friendly control panel, enabling users to directly print out A4 or 4" × 6" high-contrast borderless photos on any paper type.

The SmartBase MPC200 Photo comes with various software packages to guarantee excellent quality photos. The innovative Exif Print standard improves the way digital cameras and printers work together. It allows images to be printed exactly as the photographer intended at the time they took the picture and ensures optimised high quality output every time. Furthermore, Canon's Easy Photo Print software means users can quickly and easily select and edit images for perfect printed results

The SmartBase MPC 200 Photo uses Canon's Vivid Photo technology. This enhances photos by using the printer's capabilities to go beyond the colour limits of a PC monitor and therefore achieve more precise results.

Photo-quality copying and scanning

As a digital canon colour copier, the SmartBase MPC200 Photo has all the features normally associated with a dedicated high-quality machine with a copy resolution of 600 x 600 dpi monochrome and 1200 x 1200 dpi colour. At 14 pages per minute in monochrome, and 10 ppm in colour, the SmartBase MPC 200 Photo delivers fast copying speeds. This machine also boasts a 25-400% zoom function as well as other convenient features such as 2-on-1 copying and a 'Fit to Page' option.

The SmartBase MPC200 Photo is also a high-performance scanner, giving resolutions of 600 x 1200 dpi optical, up to 9600 dpi enhanced. While colour reproduction is ensured by 36-bit colour depth, the 256 shades of grey scale give clear monochrome scans. By using the Multi-Photo scan function, separate images that were scanned in a single take will be saved as separate files.

Quality

The combination of high-resolution printing capability and Advanced MicroFine Droplet TechnologyTM means that the SmartBase MPC200 Photo consistently provides crisp, high-contrast results, even on plain paper. Canon's Advanced MicroFine Droplet Technology gives the most accurate dot placement, sharpness and density possible so that print quality is always consistently high. Twenty five years light fastness* is guaranteed when using Canon's Photo Paper Pro (PR 101), meaning bright colours, crisp blacks and sharp-looking documents with no ink-bleed or fading.

Surprisingly compact, the high performance SmartBase MPC 200 Photo measures less than 40 x 55 cm. With an attractively styled metallic lid and the universal operation panel, this user-friendly All-in-One is ideal for creative households or small businesses where space is at a premium and high quality can not be compromised.

The USB Full Speed interface ensures full compatibility with Windows® 98, ME, 2000 and XP. The SmartBase MPC200 Photo can be installed within minutes, thanks to the multifunctional concept; just a single cable and one computer driver is required.

"This is a really exciting new product for us. It builds on the strength of our new SmartBase range and is the first time Canon has offered a great looking, compact multifunctional that can also print outstanding quality photos directly from a digital camera's memory card. We believe that with such high quality, high speed multifunctionality, the MPC200 Photo will be an extremely popular model," says Malcolm Hills, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging in the UK .

Shropshire Mortgages

The rapid growth in house prices in Northern Ireland has contributed to the number of first-time buyers reaching its lowest level for 26 years, the Council of Mortgage Lenders said today. The chairman of Council of Mortgage Lenders Northern Ireland, Derek Wilson, urged the newly formed Northern Ireland Assembly to tackle the shortage of affordable homes which has helped fuel spiralling house price inflation over recent years.

House prices have trebled in 10 years, and the number of first-time mortgage buyers has more than halved in five years. The average house price in Northern Ireland is currently £210,349 - this is higher than the UK average mortgage (£205,797) and is more than three times its 1996 level. And while house prices have been increasing, the number of first-time buyers has fallen into decline – from 18,300 in 2001 to just 8,000 in 2006.

Addressing over 150 delegates at the Hastings Europa Hotel, Council of Mortgage Lenders Northern Ireland chairman Derek Wilson said:

“Over the past year house prices in Northern Ireland have outstripped the rate of increase in other areas of the UK. It is no surprise that with house price inflation reaching 23.4% in 2006 we now have the lowest number of first-time buyers entering the mortgage market since 1980.”

“Council of Mortgage Lenders urges the Northern Ireland Assembly to address affordability constraints by implementing some of the reforms proposed in Sir John Semple’s report on affordable housing. This includes increasing the supply of affordable housing and examining whether a shared equity scheme - like HomeBuy in England - could play a part in helping more first-time buyers on to the property mortgage ladder.

“Mortgage lenders already offer a range of innovative mortgage products to help people buy their first home, but they cannot solve the affordability issue on their own. Council of Mortgage Lenders looks forward to working with the Northern Ireland Executive and the Social Development Committee to find ways of helping those who want to become home-owners.”

Ink Cartridge Purchasing Tool

http://www.internet-ink.co.uk/ has been launched as an Internet-based purchasing tool which has been designed ‘to reduce time and expenditure on ordering everyday business expenses, from pens and staplers to floppy discs and printer ink cartridges’. The company says that the facility has already made a significant difference to the bottom line of twenty companies. The web site works by providing access to a multitude of suppliers, with all price negotiation carried out by Bestpricepurchase, removing the need for tendering and annual contract arrangements. The system has been developed by Bestpricepurchase chief executive Elie Jankelewitz, who has worked with many International businesses as a troubleshooter: “I developed the service after encountering the same problems in companies all over the world. I was regularly seeing staff spend unnecessary amounts of time on ordering office goods and it was plain to see that it was proving difficult for them to achieve the best prices where there was a good relationship with the supplier. "Bestpricepurchase takes these problems away as the system does all the work. It's fully transparent so that integrity is maintained throughout the whole purchasing process and special features have been developed such as the favourites list, to reduce spend on 'nice to have' items. All these things add up to a massive saving on time and money.” The company says that suppliers to the system also enjoy multiple benefits as the web site provides access to a wider customer base, reduces the cost of sales and allows companies to create instant promotions.

Sony Projectors

European AV distributor MultiVision has teamed up with Sony Projectors in a drive to generate more profit for the IT channel. Launching the initiative, Mike Pullon, MultiVision’s MD, comments: “The distinction between AV and IT strategies is increasingly getting smaller. In the past, Sony Projectors products were selected on their ability to meet the identified presentation needs of the application. Today, while image integrity remains absolute, it is important to understand the IT environment in which the sony projector product is to be used. This is driven by the shift in end user sony projectors buying decisions, where the purchase of presentation technology sits firmly in the remit of the IT department.” MultiVision says its aim is to help resellers recognise that a sony projector or sony plasma screen is a computer peripheral – and one that promises solid margins. It adds that the technology that is built into Sony Projectors new product range makes wireless connectivity and the ability to integrate an AV solution into a network totally achievable. Mike Pullon says resellers should talk to MultiVision because in addition to comprehensive inventory, flexible finance arrangements and efficient logistics the company can offer them access to much more support. He says: “For example, we offer the most comprehensive sony projectors support programme in the industry. Our MotiVate scheme helps to identify prospects, target messages to them, and follow up the contact – all at the touch of a button. Other on-line tools include downloadable price lists, product comparisons and technical support to name but a few. Add to that a major new sony projectors lead generation strategy which is due to launch shortly and you can see how serious we are about working proactively with this channel.

Sony Projectors and Sony Plasma screens can be purchased online.

The best place to purchase Sony Projectors in the UK is from www.shopuk.co.uk
